General
Education Requirements for Transfer Students
Transfer students who
transfer to Kansas State University from accredited two-year or
four-year institutions are required to complete a minimum number of
University General Education credit hours at Kansas State
University. the minimum number of University General Education
credit hours required is based upon total number of completed transfer
credit hours accepted at K.S.U. as shown below:
|

Each transfer student is
required to complete a minimum of six credit hours of K.S.U. upper division
University General Education courses (300 and above) as specified in the
program in which they will graduate.
Any Agriculture student who
has completed 8 or more transfer credit hours that are accepted at
K.S.U. is not required to meet the multiple category requirement described in
the college of Agriculture General Education Policy.
College of AG General
Education Policy
The College of Agriculture General Education Program
assures that all undergraduate programs provide breadth through the
completion of at least 18 semester hours of approved general education
courses/experiences of which one-third of those credits will be at the
300 level or higher.
Any student that begins courses at
KSU and/or begins transfer work Fall 1997 or later will be in the general education
program. any student that has KSU and/or transferable credit prior
to Fall 1997 will not be required to participate in the general
education program.
To insure breadth, General Education courses are
required in at least four of the following areas (a course may be used
in only one category):
- Economics
- Social Sciences
- Humanities
- Communications (e.g. writing or verbal intensive courses)
- Quantitative sciences (e.g. statistics, mathematics)
- Biological science (e.g. biology, botany)
- Physical sciences (e.g. chemistry, geology, physics)
- Professional college courses - architecture, agriculture,
business, education, human ecology, engineering. Acceptable
courses will be determined by each department and approved by the
dean's office.
Only one
agriculture course can be used to meet general education requirements.
The agriculture course must be from outside the student's department
major and it may only be used as a free or restricted elective in the
students curriculum.
Departments
within the college may specify which of the eight areas their students
can use to satisfy General Education requirements. The College of
Agriculture General Education Program is designed to take advantage of
the strong tradition of excellence in advising to determine the specific
general education courses that are best suited to each individual.
Students
changing curricula within KSU shall satisfy the University General Education requirements for the
program in which they will graduate. Students with dual majors
and/or dual degrees must meet the UGE requirements for their primary major/degree.
NOTES:
Transferable courses taken for dual credit while in high school are
considered to be transfer credit. Advanced Placement credits and
credit-by examination completed prior to enrollment at K-State count
toward transfer credit policy, but are not eligible to meet specific
general education course requirements.
