Dr. Constance
"Dusty" Becker is an Assistant Professor of Natural Resources Conservation
in the Department of Horticulture, Forestry and Recreation Resources at
Kansas State University. She is also an ancillary faculty in the Department
of Biology. Dr. Becker teaches Introduction to Natural Resources
Conservation and Natural History for undergraduates in the Park Management
and Conservation degree program.
Dr. Becker
conducts research on the human dimensions of wildlife management,
community-based ecotourism, and conservation biology. She and her students
study recreational impacts on wildlife, the effects of forest management on
avian species diversity, gene-flow at the landscape level, and conservation
of tropical biodiversity. Their research often involves field work to test
hypotheses about the ecology of birds at the community and population level
or explores societal attitudes towards biodiversity. Dr. Becker has worked
with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at National Wildlife Refuges and
public lands in the central plains, and with Earthwatch Institute in Ecuador
and Costa Rica.
