Loma Alta is located in the Colonche Hills of western Equador.

Grey-breasted Hawks are endangered but are protected in the Loma Alta Ecological Reserve where Dr. Becker conducts annual population and demographic studies on birds.  (See Earthwatch web site if you would like to volunteer on this sort of project).
